A Mind Reader's Christmas: An Eric Beckman Mystery by Al Macy is a cozy type supernatural ghost story. Every year at Christmas, the Nativity Jesus in the manger is switched with a Nativity animal in the town that Eric and his family are visiting this year. They decide they want to find out who is doing it. They film it and it happens so fast that it isn't a person, and they catch a spirit on film. The mystery is on. Oh, and Eric and his daughter can read minds and talk to each other with their m [...]

Excellent, this book has it all! Humour, interesting characters, a mystery, some creepiness, and doesn't end on a cliff.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book about a mystery that needed solving - during a holiday vacation. I've become quite the Al Macy fan!

  • Robin

Not your typical Christmas story! A mind-reading father and daughter solve a years-long mystery in a small town. Good stuff!

A Mind Reader's Christmas: An Eric Beckman Mysteryby Al MacyThe summary of this book indicated it could be read as a standalone or as book of the Eric Beckman mysteries. I read it as a standalone as part of my December Christmas themed reading. I enjoyed this book, if for no other reason, it was a proper Christmas ghost story. The novel is set in approximately 2032 (that gleaned from a passage at approximately 101 that mentions that the main character did something 7 years ago, in 2025). That's [...]

Available Kindle Unlimited although I seemed to have gotten the first 2 through library thing as I did the other book, Yesterday's Thief head's up that it was freebie day I guess. Liked the book even better than the previous one, although am a huge fan of the other type of story, but this oneybe now that I knew of the characters better maybe, seemed to flow better and not cause me as much confusion as before. When I get time, although not sure just when that might be, will re-read both stories [...]

Eric Beckman, a mind reading private investigator was hoping for a quiet Christmas with his wife and daughter in Vermont when they learn of a ghost switching baby Jesus from the nativity scene. His daughter also a mind reader has the ability to hear ghosts. Can they along with his assistant Peggy find out who the ghost is and help him them move on. I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review. I'm not usually a big fan of ghost stories but this one sounded intriguing and I love a C [...]

A unique paranormal mystery set at Christmas. Like some other reviewers, I was surprised to find how much I enjoyed this. Other than the fact that it took place at Christmas and had a mystery surrounding a nativity scene, it wasn't really about Christmas, and the main character apparently doesn't even believe in God or the actual Christmas story. That said, I thought the story was really interesting and drew me in. I liked the main characters, especially the 10 year old daughter. Since I enjoy p [...]

I had previously read the other books in this series and loved them, so was happy to receive a review copy of this book. There are some very funny characters - my favourite is the mind-reading daughter, and I also love the secretary/assistant, who has a greater role than usual in this story. We learn some back-story, and the characters develop nicely. The story is based around a Christmas vacation, with the usual suspects - snow, ghosts etc. This could be read as a standalone but would benefit f [...]

Terrible! This is not a Christmas Mystery story and the blurbs and synopsis are missing some critical info that had it been stated completely and correctly would possibly have prevented my wasted time reading this book. This is a paranormal Sci-Fi fantasy and ghost story set in the near future and loaded up with all sorts of Aldous Huxley type "Brave New World" wonder drugs. Now I don't mind a bit of the paranormal in a mystery if it advances the mystery, as happens in some of Marcelle Dube's ex [...]

I really really liked this book, I didn't think I would when I started it. Mind reading family, ghosts, Christmas, danger and a special child. Eric ( the Dad), is a investigating a strange problem in a small Vermont town, who keeps moving the baby Jesus from his manger, who is the lady in grey following them, what is going on in the ruins near the family's Christmas rental? I hope there is more from Eric's family .

Ghosts and Ghouls for ChristmasA Mind Reader’s Christmas: An Eric Beckman Mystery was a fun read. The mind reader aspect was an interesting and effective hook to pull you into the story. The characters are lovable and downright funny. A coming of age story with a twist. I gave it five stars and would read another of the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The storyline kept me interested the entire time. I thought the characters were built up well and they became very personable. The book title did not seem very exciting and a little hooky but I was pleasantly surprised with the content! I am interested in exploring other books by this author!

ThrillingI found this book extremely addicting! It kept me at attention until I finished. I loved the characters and the plot. I don't know if there is another one that continues with Erik and his family but if there is I will be reading it. Loved it!

I OKThe story was entertaining and required little thinking. It was very easy to figure out what was going to happen next. I guess what I'm trying to say is I need to be challenged more when reading a book.

A very different Christmas story.I'm a Vermonter and tis the season! Good versus evil is always a good theme. I really liked Samuel, there was something special about him. Peggy seems a bit over the top but then again, why not?

  • Kelli

I really enjoyed this. A quick read with interesting plot twists I didn't predict. I liked the characters, especially the complicated Peggy. I would definitely read more by this author.Disclosure: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

A supernatural Christmas tale that starts very slow and finally caught me. Just as I was about to put the book away, it got interesting. If you can suspend your belief, give this book a spin.

  • Larry O'Neil

Think you are not a fantasy reader. WRONG!Yes, the story is set in a future time, but not “yucky-future”. I am not a fantasy guy, but I really enjoyed this trip through Tomorrow Land. Please join me, I don’t like being the only “non-believer”.
