My first taste of any book by this author and it was very early in the book when I realised I was going to really like the female protagonist. That hit me fast. She is a private investigator of sorts, but such a flawed and damaged character. This is a series but no issues reading it as a stand alone. She's come through heroin addiction and still has her battles with the demons of addiction and dependency. Seems to be an ongoing thing. She's also a mature older woman which I do admit I had trouble [...]

Thank you to Netgalley, Random House Cornerstone and Annie Hauxwell for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review. The front picture of this book and the bio on the back has the reader going in with high hopes of a suspense thriller. This is part of a series but can easily be read as a stand alone. The writing style draws the reader in from the beginning I really enjoyed the start of this book but I lost my way with it in the middle and didn't really get it back from there. I was ho [...]

I like the main character but this wasn't my favourite of the series so far, felt a bit disconnected from her and it. Would still read any further books in the series.

This book is part of a series but can be read as just a stand alone book. I enjoyed it immensely and would defo rad the rest in the series for sure. I thought the characters were well made and the plot was good, it had good pace and was an interesting read. I enjoyed the writing style and the lead character had me rooting for her! Great book must read

I was given this book by Netgalley in return for a review. House of Bones is part of a series but reads very well as a stand alone novel. I have never read anything by Annie Hauxwell before and was more than a little pleased when the main character, Catherine Berlin, private investigator, was revealed as a woman of my own age group. Berlin is an addict trying to overcome her demons as well as coping with the recent death of her mother. She is a one-off in terms of P.Is although could perhaps be [...]
