I have yet to figure out what it is that I, as a woman, am supposed to find at all endearing about a character like Julia. She's spoiled, petty, cowardly, self-centered, nonsensical, irrational, filled with self pity, and lacking even an iota of self confidence. Am I supposed to feel badly for her? She's had a rough time of it because she's not acceptable in society, yet she's surrounded by family and friends who love and accept her. I'm sorry if I'm unable to summon any sympathy, especially con [...]

"Lee's novel hits the sweet spot for those seeking a traditional read: innocent young woman, worldly naval captain, devious cousins, a matchmaking uncle and enough miscommunication to be enjoyable." RT Book Reviews

I didn't care about any of the characters and found most of them annoying I found it difficult to believe in any of the characters or the story, I got about 70 pages in then skipped to half way through because I was bored.

Written with plenty of flair, elan and verve, Engagement of Convenience is an exceptional and enjoyable Regency romance from a new writer for Harlequin Historicals: Georgie Lee.Julia Howard is no ordinary Regency miss. A spirited young lady who is more at home riding horses and managing the family estate than attending balls and having tea with esteemed dowagers, Julia’s life revolves around her family and Knollwood, the ancestral country pile that is her most treasured possession. Whilst othe [...]

This book starts off well. Contrary to most romances involving soldiers, this focuses on a Naval Captain Covington. Jim is the quintessential hero, except he has an injury that has forced him to give up his commission. This injury was not really life threatening, so it was kind of misplaced. Julia wants Cable Grange, a parcel of land fallen in disrepair. She wants her own estate and is willing to go to any level to get it. She's only twenty one and often she sounds like a child. The story starts [...]

Daniella‘s review posted on Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews4 STARSI have to say that Regency Romance by Harlequin has stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. This is not your old, 1970′s Regency book. It is fresh and sexy!! The way Georgie Lee has written this, I fell in love with the characters and basically everything from the first page. The characters aren’t stereotypical and Julia Howard was so spunky and non-Edwardian in what she wanted out of her life. Captain James Covington was a [...]

I couldn’t stop cheering for Julia and James! They are a couple searching for their soul mates, and Georgie Lee leads them on a wild chase to admit they’ve found each other. I thoroughly enjoyed Engagement of Convenience and found the characters, setting and situations believable and intriguing. You’ll enjoy it, too!

I thought this book was wonderful! I could completely understand why Julia felt the way she did about her family. It's all about how things come across to another person, which is not always the way things are intended. She and James were great together. I always enjoy a wounded hero. I would like to read a story about Paul. His story would be a great adventure!

I had read the first half of this novel and realised that not much had happened. But also, I thought the book as a whole was a bit of a let down. Not enjoyable for me - a little boring too.

  • Hasnamezied

I think this is one of the most boring novels that I have ever read .I was tricked by the cover but it was a disaster

3 and a half stars quite a good regency romp that flows along without too many heaving bosoms etcyou care about the two protagonists and the outcome .

    So bad, it's hysterical.
